I guess it's time to let you know that I've received my call to
the Japan Sendai Mission, alas,
not with the Outreach Center but primarily as
"office specialist." My companion will be Yuri Noda Bennett, who has been out
in the field in Niigata proselyting with the young sisters, riding a bike and
all, while she awaits my arrival. I'm due at the MTC on July 5th but will be in
Orem at my son's house from June 2nd until I leave for Japan on July 16th.

I'm a little scared but very excited to embark on this errand for the Lord. I
will be in the MTC on my 70th birthday as well as the first anniversary of my
husband's death. Although my husband and I were never able to serve a couple
mission together, I look forward to serving with all my "heart, might, mind, and
strength" for the next 18 months in Sendai. I look forward to meeting the
Phillipses. It appears that my mission will overlap theirs almost a year.
I'm sure you know that my sister Faith Watabe and her husband Masahisa have
finally arrived in Tokyo to assume their duties to the Asia Area Presidency,
Masa as executive secretary and Faith as his assistant.
My older sister Ruth and her husband Guan Chye Teh will be teaching in China in
the Kennedy Center program. They will be in Provo for training the first week
of August and will be departing for their assignment around the middle of
--Marion Okawa Sonomura
