Editor's Note: 1910 - In Korea and China. I copied and pasted from the transcription of the journals in the BYU Library. I cannot always tell which of the errors are because of poor transcription or just spelling irregularities common at that time in our history. I have made some corrections, but not all to give a flavor of the original journals and because I am lazy.

San Francisco, Cal. Monday, April 25, 1910 . Clear - Warm Up at 7:00. Spent the day on the train speeding towards Zion. About 9:30 Bro. Christensen came to the hotel and handed me $50 00 which enabled me to secure our R.R. tickets. At the depot we found that our baggage could not all go through free be- cause we had failed to get a special endorsement on our tickets. Not having enough to pay the excess charges, we sent the baggage through C.O.D. We just got on the ferry as it was moving away from the pier. One interesting feature of the day's ride was the crossing of a little arm of the bay on a ferry which carried the train as well as the passengers. The scenery on the west side of the Sierra Nevada mountains is much like that in the east. - everything bringing green and heavily wooded. I found a young man named Peterson on the train who is from Salt Lake. He was well acquainted with Elias C. Ashton when on a mission in the Colorado Mission some years ago. After supper, I met Bro. LeGrande Young and his daughter Mrs. Reed they being on their way home from the coast.

On the "Overland Limited" Nevada. Tuesday, April 26, 1910 Clear - Hot Up at 7:30. The scene this morning was a great contrast to that we beheld yesterday. But the dry sage brush hills and plains of Nevada & Utah were a delightful sight to me, for sage brush and rabbit brush are not seen anywhere in the part of the Orient I have visited. The Lucian cut-off over the Great Salt Lake was a very interesting part of the day's ride. At 2:00 P.M. our train arrived at Ogden. Father and my brother Samuel and his little boy Harold were at Ogden to meet me.
