Death of Robert Stout 6 August 2011

Brother Stout served in Japan from 1958-61 as a missionary and as mission president of the Kobe Mission from 1977-1980. The following is from his daughter, Wendy.

He had a fall about a month ago and fractured a couple of vertebrae, but has gone down hill so fast in many unrelated ways too. His doctor said that sometimes at this age and with his medical history it can just cause a cascading effect. we had him in the hospital for a while , then a care center, then when it became apparent that he was not improving, and he was so unhappy there, we brought him home. He has a lot wrong and has for a long time the Doc. says about 8 things. He has had so many "mini" strokes, there is a lot of obvious brain damage on the MRI scans, and we think these have been going on for more than 10 years. Also diabetes.

He has been so happy just to be home, and with mom and all of us. He rallies at times, but now that just means that he will recognize us and say a name or laugh for a moment. We have hospice care and a hospital bed and we are keeping him comfortable. We thought he would go Monday and we were all there and had the family prayer. Tues. we felt like he did go for a few moments. Last night in a blessing we learned that he will go as soon as it is time, and that he will not have to linger any longer. So we don't know. He is a very sweet patient, and mom is being very brave and gave him permission to " go home". Any ways, I just thought you should know.  -Wendy

Dad passed away peacefully tonight (Saturday, 8-6-11)at 9:40 He was surrounded by his family, and it was sweet. But we will miss him so much. The funeral will be on Wednesday. 10:00 for the closed casket viewing and 11:00 for the funeral. We will go the Hagerman, Idaho the next day for the grave side service and burial. Mom is doing well, and we will not let her be alone for a long time. We have seen so many tender mercies.  -Wendy
