Sister Janet Jensen Hirano told us this sweet story about being a member missionary by example many years ago in Japan. She and her husband Katsuya live in the Kamagaya Ward.

Janet was teaching school for the U.S. Military in Tokyo. School officials in Nagano City invited her and three other teachers to spend three weeks in Nagano City teaching native Japanese teachers of English.

While there she had a homestay arrangement with the Ishizaka family. One member of the family was a young daughter. During the homestay time, Janet didn’t try to teach the Gospel to the family. Her ability in Japanese at the time was quite limited.

Several years later, Janet reports that she was contacted by Sister Ichikawa who was now living in Saitama Prefecture. She and her husband operate an egg farm there. Sister Ichikawa identified herself  as the daughter of the Ishikawa family with you Janet stayed many years earlier. Sister Ichikawa said that when she met some sister missionaries when she was older and living alone in Morioka. She remembered the Church they mentioned was the same Church which her homestay friend, Janet Jensen, belonged to. She said she was so impressed with Janet’s example that she knew these people of the same Church would be good people. She agreed to listen to the missionaries and was baptized.
